The Chateau on the lake: Once a Boathouse, Now an Inn
Originally constructed as a boathouse, then towed from the shore to become a home for one hundred years, the house at the end of Allen’s Alley is now an upscale, lakeside country inn called the Chateau on the Lake.
Owned by Ed and Jennifer Foy, the Chateau on the Lake began serving dinner on August 2 and, without any advertising or even so much as an ‘Open’ sign, the restaurant has been full every night.
“We had a dinner for family and friends, and the word spread from there,” said Jen Foy. “People are also intrigued by the sign on Main Street directing you to the lake, so we’ve also had roamers come by; they look around and immediately want to make reservations.”As Hugh Allen Wilson would say, it’s the talk of “tout Bolton.”

New Jersey couple goes from clothes to food as restaurateurs of The Chateau on the Lake
BOLTON — For more than a decade, Edward and Jennifer Foy ran a company that managed online branding for some of the biggest designers in the country. Their New Jersey-based business, eFashion Solutions, had clients such as DKNY, Oscar de la Renta and Christian Louboutin. Now the married couple, after exiting that business in January, are building a brand new one. They bought what is now The Chateau on the Lake about 18 months ago. Located at 15 Allen’s Alley in Bolton, the 3,500-square-foot building is the former home of the late Hugh Allen Wilson, a famous organist and conductor.

For Sunday’s dining review, Bryan Fitzgerald visited Chateau on the Lake in Bolton Landing. Short version:
For Lake George — where there is no shortage of seasonal transplants with summertime mansions and eight-figure investment portfolios — this is among the best, most ambitious dining by the water; since The Sagamore got rid of its high-end Trillium room several years ago, only The Inn at Erlowest, located 8 miles south, is aiming for a niche as rarefied as this. But for residents of the immediate Capital Region, there are Albany and Saratoga Springs restaurants priced similarly (Angelo’s 677 Prime) or a bit lower (Yono’s) that are superlative. More bluntly put, Chateau on the Lake is excellent but not outstanding. Given what it costs, it needs to be outstanding.
